What do you mean by the countries law that my company is governed by?

We mean the countries law which governs the rights and relations and conduct of your company ie the country the company was created in. For example, a Limited company incorporated in the UK would be subject to UK law.

What happens if we are a charity and do not have a UTR?

If you’re a registered charity, we just need to capture your charity number and what charity register you’re registered on.

If you’re registered with Companies House, you’ll be able to obtain a UTR.

If registered with The Scottish Charity Regulator, The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland or Charities Commission, you’ll need to provide your Charity Number.

Once we have registered your Charity Number, we’ll be in contact to let you know what additional checks are needed.

This will be the number which is issued to you after you’ve registered your company with the relevant company register. You should be able to find it on the register itself or on any official documentation you’ve received from the party operating and maintaining that company register.

What’s my National Insurance number (NINO)?

Your NINO is made up of letters and numbers and never changes. It was given to you by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) – you can find it on your payslip/P60, or on letters about tax, pensions and benefits you’ve received from HMRC, the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) or other government departments.

A company register is a register of organisations operating in a particular jurisdiction (excluding sole traders, individuals, partnerships and unincorporated associations). A company will have a duty to file its documents to that register (such as accounts, capital information, charges, confirmation statements and officers).

An example of a company register is the one maintained by Companies House in the UK that captures information on ‘Limited’ companies and ‘Limited Liability Partnerships’.

This is a form that establishes the rights and responsibilities of each partner in a business partnership.

What’s a UTR and where can I find this?

Your UTR is a 10-digit number. It was automatically sent to you by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) when your company was set up. This is also known as a ‘tax reference’. You can find it on your previous tax returns and in your HMRC online account. A UTR can apply to all entity types.

You’re required under the schemes rules to provide any information the Trustee or the Founder of the scheme requires. If we don’t receive this information, there are additional steps that can be taken under the scheme rules in response. We would hope however that we should never need to use those powers.

If you don’t have a NINO or UTR number, then we’d need your residential address. Where your residential address isn’t in the UK, then we would also need details of either a valid, in-date state issued national identification card or a valid in-date passport. If you’re required to provide information on either a state issued national identity card or valid in-date passport, but don’t have either, you should get in contact via our contact us page to confirm this in order for us to assist you further.
